STCW Proficiency in Medical First Aid On Board Ship

This training is intended for seafarers who are the nominated member of crew to provide medical first aid on board ship, in accordance with Regulation VI/4 of the Annex to the STCW Convention and Section A-VI/4 (1 – 3) of the STCW Code.

This course INVOLVES both practical and theory training:

  • Examination of a casualty
  • Spinal injuries
  • Burns and scalds
  • The effects of heat and cold
  • Fractures, dislocation and muscular injuries
  • Radio medical advice
  • Pharmacology
  • Cardiac arrest, drowning and asphyxia

Entry Requirements: Candidates must be over 18 and should have completed an Elementary First Aid or have relevant medical training within the preceding 5 years.

Duration: 4-Day course
